Tobago, the smaller island of the two-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, offers a foodie haven for travelers willing to explore the Caribbean’s delicious culinary history. From African influences to Spanish, Syrian and Chinese influences, Tobagonian cuisine offers something all its own.

Check out these recommendations, provided by Tobagonians themselves.

What’s better than freshly grilled shrimp, fish and meat with a delicious cold beverage after a day in the hot sun? Not much! It’s what Z’s Grill Shack in Black Rock does best. From its approachable atmosphere to its delicious food, travelers staying for a few days in Tobago might find themselves coming back for seconds.

Travelers visiting the scenic coastal village of Lambeau should stop for a bite to eat at Shore Things Cafe & Craft. With a beautiful view and great service, the cafe and restaurant is a truly enjoyable experience, but one thing that sets it apart is its handmade bean-to-bar Tobago Chocolates.

Black Rock offers some of the best beaches and sea views on Tobago, and The Seahorse Inn Restaurant definitely delivers. With a large seaside patio where travelers can enjoy a dinner watching the sunset over the sea and the stars twinkling overhead, it’s a great place for couples.

The village of Buccoo offers another great restaurant for everyone to enjoy, but this time, it’s Italian that’s on the menu. Yup, it’s time to enjoy some Italian, Caribbean-style! La Tartaruga Tobago serves delicious Italian fare paired with Italian wines.

Travelers heading to the Caribbean expect some delicious seafood and Caribbean fare, and that’s what they’ll find at Jemma’s Seaview Kitchen in Speyside, a scenic village along the island’s eastern coastline, right across from the small island called Little Tobago.

The Anchor Bar & Grill is located in the resort-heavy area of Mount Irvine on the southernmost portion of the island. Offering great food and quick service, it’s a lovely place to enjoy a sunset meal and a cold beverage.

Lastly, but certainly not least, is where travelers can find some of the best fish on the island: The Fish Pot. It’s located in Pleasant Prospect, right between Black Rock and Buccoo. Travelers can enjoy the inviting Caribbean atmosphere and outdoor patio with some of the best seafood around.
