Acapulco Travel Guide

A seaside port city with various resorts and vibrant beaches, Acapulco is a popular getaway spot on the Mexican coast.

Acapulco offers something a little different from most of the other popular coastal spots, as it has beautiful beaches as well as a built-up city center, so you can balance the beach and city life perfectly here.

The most cost-efficient way to get around Acapulco is to use the bus system, which is the primary public transport option. We found it to be very affordable, and the system routes ensure you can get to wherever you need to be in the city.

Another convenient way to get around is by taxi, which you’ll find readily available in the city. This is naturally more expensive than a bus ride but is still fairly affordable. This is the best option for a longer trip, or to get to and from the airport.

The temperatures are steady throughout the year in Acapulco, but the most popular time for tourists is during the winter months. This is because it’s the dry season, so visitors will avoid rainfall.

If you want to visit during the less crowded, off-peak period, then you can visit during the warmer months. But you should check weather forecasts before booking to ensure you miss the heavier rainfalls and hurricane season, which tends to occur in the latter part of summer.

  • Plaza Alvarez: A major picturesque square in Acapulco is the Plaza Alvarez, which has a constant buzz of activity and lots to do in the area. There are wonderful shops, cafes, and restaurants around for you to browse through for local souvenirs or delicious food and drinks. Our favorite thing to do is to find a shady spot near the fountains, and people-watch while enjoying a coffee and a snack.
  • Revolcadero: One of the most scenic beaches in Acapulco is Revolcadero, which has a wild and untouched beauty to it. The seas here are often quite rough, so proceed with caution if looking to swim. But we think it is a great place to relax on the sand for hours, admiring the natural surroundings and listening to the sound of the waves.
  • Diana the Huntress: A famous monument in Acapulco that you will not want to miss is the Diana the Huntress statue and fountain structure, which is a striking part of the cityscape. The figure of Diana represents a hunting goddess from Roman and Hellenistic mythology, and the site is a perfect spot for memorable pictures.
