Nassau is a bustling city center at the heart of the Bahamas but it is not without that iconic island charm. There’s a whole world to explore just in this one city, bursting with Caribbean flavor.

If you’re a history buff, a nature lover, an adventure seeker, or simply a beach bum, Nassau is the place to be. When visiting, be sure to check out these awesome things to do in Nassau.

Bask On The Beach

The first thing you have to do in Nassau is make your way to the beach. Or, we should say, to one of the many beaches that the city has to offer.

There’s the beach where the final Jaws movie was filmed (aptly named Jaws Beach) for a special tourist attraction, or Cable beach, which is widely considered the most beautiful beach on the whole island. Our other favorites include Love Beach and Cabbage Beach. There’s definitely no shortage of picturesque beaches for you to visit here!

Take A Rum Tour

Rum is basically synonymous with the Caribbean, and Nassau is a great example of this. Pop into one of the city’s distilleries for a tour of the rum-making process.

What we like to do is take the Rum Runners’ Passage Tour, which shows you smuggling routes and offes a delicious tasting menu. If rum isn’t your thing, there are also many food tours and exceptional restaurants in the city.

Visit Fort Charlotte

For a slice of history, we recommend checking out Fort Charlotte, the largest fort on the island. It’s conveniently located just outside downtown Nassau and was built in 1788.

Here you can see dungeons and cannons, as well as experience theatrical performances. On certain days, the fort comes alive with historically accurate scenes from the past. Immerse yourself in this fascinating experience.

Splash Around The Baha Bay Waterpark

When you want fun in the sun, you want Baha Bay Waterpark. Whether you are looking for exhilarating slides or some peaceful time looking out at the ocean, Baha Bay has got you covered.

This beachfront waterpark is unique in many ways and blends natural beauty with well-designed attractions. We love it for both adults and families. Just remember to pack your sunscreen!

Learn History At The Pompey Museum Of Slavery And Emancipation

While it's easy to get swept up in the beauty of the Bahamas, we think it's just as important to remember this region’s complex history. This isn’t the most fun way to spend an afternoon, but it is an incredibly enlightening one.

And you also get a chance to experience the oldest building in Nassau, which houses the museum. Part of being a responsible tourist is understanding the history and culture of the place you are visiting. And there’s no better place to learn about the Nassau slave trade than the Pompey Museum.

Marvel At The Primeval Forest

If you’re looking for some natural beauty beside the beaches, we highly recommend heading to the Primeval Forest National Park. There’s a wealth of plants, including ancient hardwood trees, and some incredibly deep sinkholes that are both fascinating and terrifying.

Make sure not to miss out on the extensive limestone caverns. We also love doing a spot of bird-watching here. Keep an eye out for the elusive Blue Grosbeak!

Take In The Underwater Delights

You cannot go to Nassau and not get into the water. The most famous attribute of the Bahamas is its beautiful clear waters, and there’s no better way to explore them than scuba diving or snorkeling.

Not only will you get to see otherworldly coral reefs, but also a dazzling array of tropical fish that are guaranteed to delight the senses.

Step Into Beautiful Nassau

With a wealth of natural beauty and cultural significance, Nassau is a must-see destination. We love it for the diversity of attractions it offers. There's something for everyone to enjoy in this wonderful city.
