Bowman’s Travel Brief: Don’t Be This Bad Traveler

A viral TikTok last week showcased the perfect instance of how not to act when traveling.

It was also another example of why travelers should always use a travel advisor when booking their vacations.

A young girl complained in a TikTok about how difficult it was to reach Italy's Amalfi Coast, saying social media influencers were misleading people in only showing the beautiful scenery of the location.

First of all, she’s in Italy. Why is she complaining about anything?

Second, she put faith in visiting a destination based on the wrong influencer. The true influencer of the industry is the travel advisor, and if she had used one, she would’ve known about all the walking and other issues she complained about in her video.

Even if this is just a spoof from her in targeting social media influencers for how they only post pretty pictures, the attitude of complaining about a destination’s features is absurd.

Newsflash people, you’re going to have to walk up hills and take ferry rides all in hot weather if you travel to certain places in the summer. Long plane rides, walking on cobblestone streets, staying in older places – these are not things to complain about. It’s part of the travel experience and sometimes it can be what makes a destination stand out.

Don’t complain because it was hard to get to or it’s different than what you expected or are used to.

Don’t be this traveler. The world doesn’t need this traveler anymore.

Be a better traveler and keep your complaints at home and just enjoy the fact that we live in a time where we can hop on a plane and truly see all the beauty this planet has to offer.
