Grand Anse Beach
Our favorite beach on the island is also widely considered the best. You can stay in a hotel just a stone’s throw from the beach and start your mornings looking out to sea.
Whether you want to bask in the sun or scuba dive to explore a shipwreck, there’s a reason Grand Anse is the top beach on the island.
But if you’re looking for something quieter, we recommend checking out the more remote Levera Beach. In fact, because of how much quieter it is, you may even see a sea turtle here.
Grenada Underwater Sculpture Park
One of Grenada’s more unique attractions is this underwater park, with its impressive (but also rather creepy) assortment of life-sized human sculptures.
You can see a rendition of a soccer match, and a classroom full of stone children sitting at stone desks. Not only is this a unique experience, but it was also the first underwater sculpture park.
The park also acts as an artificial reef, so you’ll be able to see some amazing underwater creatures.
Fort George
For a combination of history and scenery, you can’t beat Fort George. The oldest fort on the island, it offers stunning views of both the city and the sea, depending on which way you look.
While it was built in the early 1700s, it is still in use today as the home base for the Grenada police force. Because of this, you can’t access the whole fort, but the bits you can tour offer a fascinating insight into the past.
Grand Etang National Park
We love spending a few hours taking in the natural beauty of this national park. Not only is there a gorgeous tropical forest, but there are many exciting animals to see.
Keep your eyes peeled for tropical mockingbirds that look like an explosion of color. You’ll also see your fair share of Mona monkeys in the park, and most likely catch a few armadillos.
Concord Falls
If you’re still in the mood for more natural beauty, we recommend heading out to Concord Falls, the best waterfall on the island. Here you can sit in peaceful serenity and let the sound of the rushing water settle over you.
Located on the western side of Grenada island, this majestic sight involves no hiking and also has a pool for splashing around in.
Spicemas
When it comes to festivals, no one does it quite like the Caribbean. So if you happen to be in the area in August, be sure to hit the streets to watch the floats celebrating the island and its spice industry.
You’ll find a dazzling assortment of costumes and bright colors, loads of intoxicating music, and a fascinating display of the diverse cultures of the island nation.
Because Grenada is less of a tourism hotspot than the Bahamas, we find that Spicemas has a less tourist feel than Junkanoo Festival, which we thoroughly enjoy.
Gouyave Nutmeg Processing Station
While we’re on the subject of spices, a fun activity for an afternoon is to check out the biggest spice processing station on the island.
They offer tours that explain the process of turning freshly harvested spices into fine powder. It’s fascinating to see the process happen in real life.
River Antoine Distillery
Another excellent place to visit is the River Antoine Distillery. We love the antique feel of this rum production center. It is still in action today, but much of the equipment is over 200 years old.
The distillery stands as a monument to the achievements of the past. While we may be living in the modern age, they are still making rum the same way that their ancestors did. Tradition and history are vital parts of everyday life on the island.
