Top New Hotels & Resorts Opening in Africa & the Middle East in 2023

The New Year is in full swing, and that means it's time to look forward to some incredible new hotels and resorts opening in 2023! From sustainable lodges in South Africa to luxury wellness resorts in new destinations like Saudi Arabia, this round-up is not to be missed. Opening this summer along Tunisia's Mediterranean coastline is Hilton's debut into the country: the Hilton Skanes Monastir Beach Resort. With 346 rooms and suites, the resort features a white-sand beach, seven food and beverage venues, five indoor and outdoor pools, a thalassotherapy spa, kid's club, meeting spaces and more. It's also only a short drive away from the local airport and several attractions, like the Museum Medina of Sousse.

Located near the Karura Forest in Nairobi, Kenya is the upcoming Kwetu Nairobi, a Curio Collection by Hilton property. Kwetu, the Swahili word for "our home," typifies this hotel, offering 102 comfortable rooms set within a forested complex, complete with multiple dining venues, a rooftop bar, spa, outdoor swimming pool and gardens.

Opening sometime this year is the striking two-towered luxury hotel and residences, Rosewood Doha. Set along the harbor, Rosewood Doha will offer 185 rooms and suites, along with a selection of residences for longer stays. Features include eight dining venues, a ballroom, Rosewood's Manor Club executive lounge and Asaya, the brand's signature wellbeing concept, all designed with a hyper-modern style that harkens back to the region's natural wonders, such as the towers' signature coral-like facade.

Opening this spring, the Waldorf Astoria Cairo Heliopolis brings the brand's luxury ethos to the storied country for the very first time, located less than ten minutes away from Cairo International Airport. The hotel features 252 rooms and suites, the Waldorf Astoria Spa, pool and garden, fitness center, meeting and event spaces and more.

Hilton's first luxury hotel in Morocco just opened at the end of 2022, but deserves a spot on this list nonetheless. The Conrad Rabat Arzana offers 120 rooms and suites along the coastline of Harhoura, a scenic area known for its beaches. Four dining and drinking venues, a Conrad Spa and beauty salon, kid's club, adult and family pools, indoor and outdoor event spaces, an outdoor terrace and more make this a great choice for both business and leisure travelers, all designed with Conrad's signature brand in mind.

Opening sometime this year is a luxury villa resort in Doha, Katara Hills Doha, part of LXR Hotels & Resorts. This resort offers fifteen private villas, each with its own pool, located in the Katara Cultural Village. Private butler service, on-site restaurant and more make this modern villa resort a great destination for travelers wanting the seclusion of their own villas without skimping on the resort amenities.

Opening this March in Dubai is a new landmark resort for the city: Atlantis The Royal, whose modern design and luxury amenities are invitation enough to enjoy this resort. The 43-story resort offers a selection of rooms, suites and penthouses, a 22nd-floor infinity edge pool, the largest jellyfish aquarium in the world, its spa and wellness concept, AWAKEN, several dining venues spearheaded by celebrity chefs, including Jose Andres, and so much more.

Six Senses Southern Dunes makes the brand's debut in Saudi Arabia early this year, an eco-conscious resort inspired by the ancient Nabateans who once followed trade routes through the region. The resort will feature several guestrooms and villas, with the Oasis building in the center, offering a space for the lobby, prayer rooms, Earth Lab and more. The resort also features a spa and the Artisan Village, where travelers can learn about the region's history and heritage. The entire resort's design is focused upon reflecting the desert's own ecology while limiting its negative impact on the local environment.

Located in southern Tunisia near the beginning of the Sahara Desert is The Residence Douz, a new luxury all-villa resort opening in September 2023 featuring 50 villas with private terraces and pools, multiple dining venues showcasing Africa, Mediterranean and Arabic cuisine, spa and ample opportunities for exploring the surrounding area, made famous as a filming location in Star Wars, as well as other natural wonders or cultural sites. The resort also features opportunities to view local wildlife, such as fennec foxes, as well as a kid's club.

Opening in November 2023 is the Fairmont La Marina Rabat-Salé, located in Rabat, Morocco. This luxury hotel is located just ten minute's from the city's center, nestled close to a river and the Atlantic Ocean. With 186 rooms and suites, three dining venues, a bar and tearoom, garden, spa and more, all wrapped up in Fairmont's signature luxury ethos, the hotel will offer a great accommodation for luxury travelers in the region.

Located inside the Nambiti Private Game Reserve in the KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa is a new eco-luxury lodge opening this summer, The Homestead. Though it comes with a hefty price tag, it includes your accommodations, all dining and drinking, two daily safaris either on foot or by electric vehicle, laundry service and transfers to and from the reserve's airstrip. The lodge offers twelve suites and can be booked out for private events, family gatherings and more.

Opening in June 2023 is the Ngorongoro Lodge, a Meliá Collection Hotel in Tanzania. The five-star hotel is an eco-conscious accommodation with 56 rooms that produces its own drinking water and electricity, and also gives back to local Maasai people through Born to Learn. It's located near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the Maasai as well as many different animal species.
