If you are a lover of the outdoors and you want to feel like you are one with nature, there is no better place to be than Alaska.

The gigantic US state is a vast landscape of mountains, forests, lakes, wildlife, and a unique local culture.

Visit The Alaska Native Heritage Center

When visiting a place for the first time, learning about the history, culture, and people is an important way to fully understand and appreciate it. In Alaska, the place to go to do this is the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

The center features exhibitions, village sites, and educational resources and activities to keep the whole family entertained and informed. We recommend this as an activity on days when the weather is too cold to bear the outdoor sights.

Explore Kenai Fjords National Park

Set just outside of Seward, the massive Kenai Fjords National Park is a playground for nature lovers who want to explore unique landscapes.

You can see a calm body of water running through surrounding snow-capped fjords, and glaciers. You can partake in water sports or go hiking/trekking to enjoy the park, or you can view all there is to see from a cruise. Our top highlight here is whale spotting on the water, as you may spot an orca passing by.

Enjoy Anchorage

The biggest city in Alaska is Anchorage, and this is the hub of all cultural activity in the state. The metropolitan city might be a change from the predominant nature in other parts, but Anchorage is not just concrete. The city is surrounded by parks, mountains, and other stunning scenery, so it is the ideal place for a balance of the two.

Cruise Through The Inside Passage

A popular activity in the region is a cruise through the Inside Passage, which is a water passage that runs through incredible natural areas that include national parks, fjords, islands, and much more.

The cruises are generally 1-2 weeks long and sail through the incredible route while stopping at the main landmarks. It is an unusual but spectacular cruise experience that we think is worth doing when in Alaska.

Travel The Alaska Railroad

If you would prefer to see Alaska by land rather than a cruise, we think a good alternative is to hop aboard the Alaska Railroad for a day journey from Fairbanks to Seward.

The railroad operates one return service per day and allows you to enjoy amazing views of the picturesque state while in the comfort of the train, with food and drinks available to you throughout.

We recommend booking tickets early, as this is a very popular activity.

See The Northern Lights

The renowned Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon that many people flock to see in specific parts of the world - and Alaska is one of them.

We recommend viewing them from Fairbanks - it’s one of the best spots to see the lights. The period of the year when you can view the lights is between August and April - the winter months.

Escape To Denali National Park

Home to Mount Denali, the tallest mountain in North America, Denali National Park covers 6 million acres and is home to some of the country’s most phenomenal nature.

Other than the incredible peak, there is vast forestry, parkland, tundra, glaciers, rivers, and more. One of our favorite parts of it is the wildlife, which includes moose, wolves, and black and grizzly bears, to name just a few.

Discover Alaska

Alaska is a treasure trove of unspoiled land that has every natural element imaginable, and more.

You can see the state on a cruise, on the road, or on a railway - whichever you choose, you will be blown away by the sights you see along the way.
