The central South American country of Bolivia boasts several natural wonders including the Amazon, the largest salt flat in the world, and the bright red lake of Laguna Colorada.

Pair this with its picturesque cities and ancient ruins, and you have an adventure waiting to happen.

Walk On Clouds In Salar De Uyuni

To experience the wonder of the world’s largest salt flat, look no further than Salar de Uyuni.

The salt flat that spans over 10,582km is a result of lakes that evaporated centuries ago. It has left behind a vast landscape of white salt.

This is something you have to see, and it is especially remarkable after rainfall. The ground turns into a mirror, reflecting the skies above. You will feel as though you are walking on clouds!

Sightsee In Sucre

The name of this city is also the French word for ‘sugar’, and the constitutional capital city of Sucre is certainly a sweet experience for visitors.

The city still holds a strong colonial influence in its architecture, with Spanish-style white buildings and red roofs.

It is home to a vast array of museums and historical sites that you can visit to learn the fascinating history of Bolivia. The local culture and food are a big drawcard, and you will not run out of things to do.

See Red In Laguna Colorada

Yet another natural wonder that you will find in southwest Bolivia is Laguna Colorada, a shallow salt lake that is bright red.

The lake looks like something out of a fantasy movie, but the bright red color is owed to the red sediments in the water.

The water quality is safe enough to swim, but it can be risky as the lake is very muddy which might pose a challenge to moving through. It is also home to a highly endangered flamingo population, and it is a real treat to spot the pink feathery birds.

Explore The Amazon

Bolivia is often overlooked as an Amazon visiting point, but this has the upside of being able to explore the world’s largest rainforest without the crowds and at a fraction of the price of other South American countries.

You can stay in accommodations in nearby towns and travel in, and the most popular way to see the Amazon is by booking a tour excursion for several days. This allows you to safely see the rainforest by boat and trekking on foot to see both land and water animals.

Sail On Lake Titicaca

The highest lake in the world, and the largest lake in South America, Lake Titicaca can be found in Bolivia amid the Andes.

The reflective waters are incredibly tranquil and house many ancient ruins. The lake itself is considered ancient, as it is about three million years old.

You can enjoy the view of the lake, with the surrounding mountains from the shore, but we recommend exploring it on a boat for an extra special experience.

Wander Through Tiwanaku

Not far from Lake Titicaca is the ancient city of Tiwanaku, once home to the Tiwanaku people.

You can wander through the incredible ruins for hours on end, seeing the remains of pyramids, temples, and arches.

To learn about the history of the Tiwanaku culture, we recommend seeing this area with a tour guide that can provide you with the relevant information for each ruin.

Enjoy The Buzz Of Santa Cruz De La Sierra

The commercial capital city of Bolivia is Santa Cruz de la Sierra, and its unique architecture, culture, and nightlife make it a vastly different experience to that of the other capital, Sucre.

The economic hub of Bolivia has beautiful beaches and nature but also prides itself on its food and nightlife, so it is one not to miss!

Begin Your Bolivia Journey

Bolivia is home to some of the most unique natural wonders in the world, and this makes it a dream destination for those looking for adventure, wonder, and history. Avoid regrets by adding this South American country to your bucket list immediately.
