When heading to Greece, it can be hard to properly divide your time between the islands, beaches, markets, villages, and of course, the beautiful ancient ruins this country is known for.
Luckily, we’ve narrowed down the list for you. This article will show you the best things to do in Greece to ensure you don’t miss out on a single thing.
Whether you’re a history buff or want to kick back with a cocktail, here are our favorite ways to experience Greece.
Marvel At The Acropolis
The Acropolis in Athens is something you don’t want to miss. Here, you can marvel at the historic landmarks and stroll through this ancient complex.
The highlight, of course, is the Parthenon, which sits at the top of the Acropolis. We recommend taking a guided tour to learn all the history this monument offers.
Head Up Mount Olympus
Mount Olympus is a famous tourist attraction, but it’s also known in Greek mythology as the “Mountain of the Gods.”
It only takes a few days to hike to the top of this mountain, where you’ll be greeted with phenomenal views.
If you can’t spare a few days, you can also do one of the various day hikes on offer.
Seek Wisdom From The Oracle At Delphi
Delphi houses some impressive archeological ruins that have attracted tourists for decades.
This UNESCO world heritage site used to be a place where people could honor the Greek god, Apollo, and seek guidance from the Oracle at Delphi.
Today, you can visit to experience the temples, stadium, and theater on display. And who knows, perhaps the Oracle and Apollo are still listening if you have something to say.
Sunbathe at Balos Beach
Balos Beach in Crete is a great spot to sunbathe and experience the beach. We could’ve spent weeks marveling at its azure waters, which allow you to see the variety of marine life that live in the waters.
We highly recommend renting a sunbed and relaxing on this pristine beach.
Hike The Corfu Trail
The island of Corfu is one of our favorite places to visit in Greece. While there, we highly recommend taking a hike up the Corfu trail.
Just note that this trek takes 8-10 days, so pack your hiking boots. The good news is that you’ll be rewarded with scenic summits around every bend.
Visit the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil
This museum is dedicated to olives and olive oil and will teach you the history of how these ingredients have become staples of Greek cuisine.
It’s located in Patras (in Othonos Amalias) and features ancient presses that still work. If you want something educational that’s still authentic to Greece, we enjoyed the museum immensely.
Eat At Modiano Market
Modiano Market is situated near Thessaloniki and features produce, baked goods, meals, and everything else you can imagine.
This is the best place to experience authentic Greek street food. Be sure to try the spanakopita, moussaka, and souvlaki when visiting.
Experience Santorini
Santorini is the pinnacle of the Greek island offerings. It features the classic architecture that people associate with Greece against a backdrop of blue waters.
Expect price hikes here, though, as this is one of the top tourist spots in Greece.
Party in Mykonos
Mykonos is known for its nightlife and is perfect for the traveler who wants some entertainment.
We particularly like the trendy bars and nightclubs, which, coupled with the fantastic architecture, will provide you with a night you are sure to remember.
It can be pricey, especially in terms of accommodation, so plan ahead.
