Welcome to the Land of the Rising Sun!

Japan is a country of contrasts and surprises, with a mix of ancient traditions and cutting-edge technology. From the bustling streets of Tokyo to the tranquil temples and shrines of Kyoto, there's something for every traveler to discover.

In this guide, we'll highlight the best things to do in Japan, from exploring Mount Fuji to experiencing the traditional onsens and immersing yourself in the rich culture and history of the country. So pack your bags and get ready to discover the hidden gems of Japan.

We recently visited Japan and had an unforgettable trip. We would highly recommend the following cool things to do in Japan:

1. Visit Kyoto's Temples And Shrines

Kyoto's home to over 2,000 temples and shrines, making it a must-see destination for any traveler to Japan.

Some of the most famous temples include Kinkaku-ji (also known as the "Golden Pavilion"), Fushimi Inari-Taisha (renowned for its thousands of vermilion torii gates), and Tō-ji (a temple known for its sizeable five-story pagoda).

We were lucky enough to catch the cherry blossoms in full bloom, and it was one of the most beautiful sights we've ever seen.

2. Explore Tokyo's Bustling Streets

Tokyo is a city that never sleeps, with plenty to see and do at all hours of the day and night. From the bright lights of Shinjuku and Shibuya to the trendy boutiques and cafes of Harajuku and Aoyama, there's something for everyone in Tokyo.

At the Tsukiji Fish Market, we tried the freshest sushi we have ever had! We were also blown away by the variety of seafood on offer.

3. Experience A Traditional Japanese Onsen

Japan's home to thousands of hot springs, known as onsen, which offer visitors the chance to relax and unwind in the warm waters.

Many onsens are located in the countryside, providing visitors with a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings.

We visited an onsen in the mountains. It was a magical experience to be surrounded by nature while relaxing in the warm waters.

4. Take A Day Trip To Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is Japan's tallest mountain and a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can climb the mountain during the summer, and it offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.

We visited the Fuji Five Lakes area, which offers picture-perfect mountain views. We also had access to hiking trails, hot springs, and other outdoor activities. While we didn't get the chance to climb Mount Fuji, the view of it from the Fuji Five Lakes was breathtaking.

5. Experience Japanese Culture

Japan is home to rich cultures and customs steeped in tradition and history. Visitors can experience traditional tea ceremonies, flower arranging, calligraphy, and other cultural activities.

We highly recommend visiting a traditional Japanese garden and experiencing the Zen garden. We visited a Zen garden in Kyoto, which was incredibly peaceful and calming.

6. Shopping In Japan

Japan is a shopper's paradise, with everything from high-end designer boutiques to street markets selling everything from vintage clothing to electronics.

We went to Nakamise Shopping Street, which is in Asakusa, Tokyo. It is a great place to buy souvenirs and try traditional Japanese street foods.

7. Attend A Japanese Festival

Japan is home to many festivals throughout the year, which offer visitors a chance to experience the country's rich culture and history. Some of the most famous festivals include the Gion Matsuri in Kyoto, the Omizutori festival in Nara, and the Sannō Matsuri in Tokyo.

We were lucky enough to catch the Hiroshima firework festival, which was truly mesmerizing. The colorful explosions lighting up the sky was a sight we’ll never forget.

Unlock The Secrets Of Japan: A Journey Through Temples, Shrines, And Natural Wonders

Japan has so much to offer. It is an accessible destination for all!  Explore the historical temples and shrines, the bustling streets of Tokyo, the natural beauty of the hot springs, or the iconic Mount Fuji.

We highly recommend visiting during different seasons to experience the best of Japan. Take the time to immerse yourself in the culture and history of this beautiful country.
