Situated in the heart of Europe, the Czech Republic offers the charms of both Western and Eastern Europe.

We’re pretty sure you’ve heard of Prague, but there are so many other gems that this country has to offer.

The Czech Republic has something for everyone, whether you’re a history nerd, an art buff, a beer enthusiast, or a nature lover. So here is a list of the best things to do in the Czech Republic to inspire your travels.

Walk The Charles Bridge

As the second oldest bridge in the Czech Republic, the Charles Bridge is an important monument in Prague. It has 16 pillars and spans the Vltava River that runs through the city and is a great start to any tour of Prague.

Not only do we think it’s a great place to view the city, but it’s also covered in decorative statues, mostly of saints. This is an important nod to the religious history of the city.

Visit The Bone Church

Located in Kutná Hora, the Sedlec Ossuary is an old Roman Catholic chapel that’s decorated with human bones. It is estimated that between 40,000 and 70,000 skeletons line the walls of the chapel, making it a truly unique sight to see.

The chapel, an outstanding example of Baroque architecture, is located underneath a church, giving it an even spookier atmosphere. One of the most notable features is a chandelier made primarily of skulls.

Sightsee Karlštejn Castle

In our opinion, Czechia is one of the best places in the world to see castles. And Karlstejn Castle is the best of the best.

This gothic masterpiece was built in 1348 and has been well-restored and maintained, housing replicas of the Czech royal gems as well as the royal gems of the Holy Roman Empire. There’s even a wall that still has the original 14th-century decorations.

Located 30 km (almost 19 miles) southwest of Prague, this can be a lovely short trip to absorb some historic beauty.

Hit The Slopes

If you’re more of an adventure junkie than a history buff, then we recommend visiting the Czech republic in the wintertime. The snowy climate makes it perfect for skiing while not being as busy as the top skiing destinations in Europe.

We love Krkonoše National Park, which has the highest mountain in the whole country - Mount Sněžka. In addition to skiing, there are many hikes and nature walks. These include many different difficulty levels, making it fun for both the novice and the experienced hiker.

Check Out The Wine And Beer Scene

The Czech Republic is famous for its beer, with both Pilsner and Budweiser originating in the country.  You can head to Karlovy Vary to see Pilsner headquarters or go to Ĉeské Budějovice to learn more about Budweiser.

There’s also a thriving wine industry located in Moravia, bordering Austria in the southeast of the country. There are many vineyards to explore and wine tastings are a real treat, with some local grape variants creating unique tastes.

Get Out Into Nature

After sampling the urban scene, you might be craving a bit of wilderness. Luckily, you can find this easily at Šumava National Park. The largest national park in the Czech Republic is a must-see on our list.

It provides a wide variety of different landscapes, including dense forests, meadows, and wetlands. Take a break from the city and enjoy unspoiled nature, including incredible vistas across the park.

Lose Yourself In Pruhonice Park

Pruhonice park looks like it was pulled directly from a children’s fairytale, with its sprawling, green gardens and enchanting forests.

We think you’ll be just as enthralled as we were by the more than a thousand plant species and about 8,000 flowers in bloom during the Spring and Summer months.

Venture Into The Czech Republic

Now that you’ve had a taste of what the Czech Republic has to offer, you can start planning your next holiday. No matter what you are looking for, you’ll find it in the Czech Republic.

Join the many other tourists who come to appreciate the wonders of the Czech Republic - or go in the off-season to avoid crowds. Either way, you’re going to love it!
