The Yucatan Peninsula is every holidaymaker’s paradise. Beautiful beaches, amazing wildlife, stunning natural features, and even Mayan archaeological sites await you.

Looking for the best things to do in the Yucatan Peninsula on your upcoming trip to Mexico? We’ve got the best Yucatan adventures and activities right here.

Explore The Mayan Site Of Uxmal

The Yucatan Peninsula was the central location of the ancient Mayan Civilization. And you can still see evidence of this fascinating culture today.

One of the remaining testaments to the Mayan culture is Uxmal. You’ll find some pretty impressive ruins in this ancient Mayan city, with charming names like the ‘House of the Birds’ and ‘House of the Doves’.

Sample Street Foods In Merida

There’s a whole selection of tours on offer in Merida. Tours of colonial buildings. Get-to-know-the-city type walking tours. But one of the more popular tour types is the Merida food tour.

We particularly love the street food walking tours. Our advice: don’t eat beforehand, save room in your stomach for the tasty samples on the tour!

Snorkel In Riviera Maya

One of our top highlights of the Yucatan Peninsula was snorkeling in the Riviera Maya. You can snorkel right along the shore, and there’s plenty to see here. Inquisitive fishes dart about you as you explore the coral formations.

If you have never snorkeled before, this is a great place to start. And when you’ve had enough undersea exploration, lie back and relax on the beach. Riviera Maya beaches are considered by some to be the most beautiful beaches in the world. We have to say, we agree!

Swim With Whale Sharks

For the more adventurous travelers, we highly recommend swimming with whale sharks. These are not the type of sharks you need to be scared of. They’re not predators, but filter feeders. So it’s perfectly safe and enjoyable swimming with them.

Isla Holbox and Quintana Roo are two other top choices for whale shark swimming in the Yucatan Peninsula. In fact, they’re some of the top spots for shark swimming in the world.

Frolic With Flamingos At Rio Lagarto

Flamingoes are beautiful birds to be sure. And we’re certain that you’ll be tickled pink, just like these pink beauties, when you visit the Rio Lagarto Reserve. But you won’t just spot flamingos here.

There are hundreds of bird species, not to mention reptiles, fish, and mammals. Get to know the wealth of Yucatan nature at this protected reserve.

Photograph The Pink Lakes Of Las Coloradas

Probably the most photographed lakes in the Yucatan, these pink lakes (yes, you read right!) are a spectacular sight to behold. These lakes attract a lot of visitors, and the thousands of pics of them on social media can prove it.

We couldn’t resist, and we know you won’t be able to, either. But once you’ve taken a pic just to prove to your friends back home you’ve seen the pink lakes, head to Cancunito beach for some fun in the midday sun.

Visit The Lagoon Of The Seven Colors In Bacalar

Think you’ve had a colorful enough experience? Think again. You’re about to see the seven beautiful blue shades of the lagoon at Bacalar.

There are several reasons for this phenomenon. The different depths of the lake at certain points, the types of soil at the bottom, and even the effect of sunlight on the water’s surface all play a role. Whatever the reasons, it certainly looks spectacular!

In the past, areas of this lagoon were not ideal for swimming in. If unsure, check with the local authorities before taking a dip. Regardless of whether you venture into the lake or not, it’s still a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Explore The Yucatan Peninsula

These are only some of the many fun things to do in the Yucatan. Excited about visiting this paradisiacal peninsula yourself? Then book your Yucatan adventure today and discover how great a vacation in the land of the Mayas can be.
