Turks and Caicos Travel Guide

This magnificent group of islands is the perfect destination for a getaway. Turks and Caicos is southeast of the Bahamas and is well-known for its turquoise ocean water, perfect for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Below is everything you need to know to plan the perfect holiday in Turks and Caicos. From currency to climate and everything in between, we’ve got you covered in this Turks and Caicos travel guide.

There’s not much public transportation on the islands. So you’ll need to pick between a taxi and hiring a car.

We highly recommend hiring a car to save money, considering you can expect to pay a 15% tip on top of taxi fees. You can use your US driver’s license for 30 days in the region.

If you want to use a taxi, it’s best to book them ahead of time. They’re easy to find in central places, but might not be readily available if you head off the beaten path.

The region boasts an endless list of activities for you to enjoy, whether you’re traveling solo, with your partner, or with friends and family. Below are our top things to do in Turks and Caicos to help you plan your trip.

Important Things To Know

Currency

The islands use the US dollar as their official currency, making traveling there convenient for American citizens.

They accept travelers' cheques and all major credit cards on the islands. The banks in the territory all offer ATMs, so you’ll have no problem accessing cash.

The tipping culture requires that you have cash on hand. An average of 15% is tipped to waiters, taxi drivers, cleaning staff, and porters.

The region makes use of Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5) and observes Daylight Savings Time. This means clocks are set forward by an hour, resulting in the time being 4 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) instead of 5.

Climate and Weather

The climate in Turks and Caicos is warm but comfortable thanks to a constant trade wind maintaining airflow.

From June to October, the average temperature is between 85 and 90°F. These are the summer months, so it can reach the mid-90s. Between November and May, the average temperature is between 80 and 84°F.

The region experiences a hurricane season between June and November each year and is driest between December and March.

At its coldest, the water is around 70°F, and at its warmest, it’s around 84°F. You’ll never have an unpleasant swim here!
