Morocco Travel Guide

One of only three countries bordering both the Atlantic and Mediterranean, Morocco will delight you with its beautiful coastlines. A country of stark contrasts and exotic flavors, this land of deserts, mountains, and forests is the jewel of North Africa.

This concise Morocco travel guide contains useful information for your Moroccan adventure.

Morocco boasts one of the most modern railway systems in Africa so you can easily travel between the urban centers by train.

Buses are also widely used, and we were pleased to find all public transport affordable and reliable. Petit and Grand taxis are everywhere. Different cities often have different colors for taxis. Grand taxis are more suitable for shared rides.

Moroccan Arabic (known as Darija) is the most common dialect, but the official languages are Standard Arabic and Standard Moroccan Berber.

Many Moroccans also speak French and Spanish. English is becoming more commonly used, especially in tourism hubs.

Most of Morocco enjoys a tropical, wet climate. Along the northern coast, the climate is Mediterranean. More extreme temperatures are experienced the further south you go.

The summer heat in the coastal cities ranges from 64 to 82 F. In the interior, temperatures often reach highs of 95 F and above and can exceed 104 F in the Sahara Desert.

Average winter temperatures in Morocco are usually 56 to 65 F. Winters are quite wet, with an inch and a half of rainfall in each winter month.

The Atlas mountains typically have enough snow for winter sports in January and February.

Islam is the state religion, and you may wonder about the dress code in Morocco. However, we discovered that it is one of the most liberal Muslim countries.

Travelers are free to wear  western clothing  although women s arms and legs are usually covered. Observe general societal norms and you ll be fine.
